When Craig Brown decided to make a career change, he was ready for something completely different. Having worked as a laboratory team leader, he began to feel like every day was on repeat. When he spotted a Trainee Property Manager role on Indeed in 2021, he jumped at the chance to learn something new, and it turned out to be the perfect move.
“I didn’t really know what factoring involved,” Craig admits, “but it sounded varied and full of challenges, exactly what I was looking for.”
From day one at Taylor & Martin, Craig felt supported at every level. “Everyone, from the managing directors to accounts and property managers, made time to help me develop. You’re made to feel valued because people genuinely invest their time in your growth.”
A year after joining, Craig progressed to Property Manager, taking full ownership of his own portfolio. He loves that the role never looks the same two days in a row. “In summer, it’s all about grounds maintenance, site visits and client meetings. In winter, you’re dealing with weather-related works. There’s always something new to keep you engaged.”
Craig has seen incredible growth not just in his own career, but in the company around him. “When I started, there were eight of us in Glasgow across two departments. Now there are more than 20, and despite that growth, we’ve kept the same positive, supportive culture. That’s what makes Taylor & Martin special.”
A standout moment for Craig was the T&M Birthday trip to London, where the whole team came together to celebrate, learn and explore. “It was fantastic to see how our colleagues in England work, and the food and sights weren’t bad either!”
His advice for anyone thinking about a career in property factoring is simple. “Be ready for anything and expect the unexpected. That’s part of the fun. It’s a challenging role, but in the right team, it’s incredibly rewarding.”
As for what’s next, Craig is excited to keep growing with Taylor & Martin. “I’ve seen how much we’ve evolved over the last few years, and I’m looking forward to being part of the next stage of improvement and success.”
