Iain Campbell’s Journey From Trainee to Operations Director
Iain joined Taylor & Martin in 2016 with no direct property factoring experience. Starting as a Trainee Property Manager, his progression to Operations Director reflects how a career in factoring can be built from the ground up through attitude, accountability and a willingness to learn.
Before joining Taylor & Martin, Iain worked as an Asbestos Surveyor and Project Co ordinator within a property risk consultancy. While he brought technical knowledge and experience working within property, he had never worked in factoring. He entered the business at entry level and learned the role in real time.
As a trainee, his responsibilities included responding to homeowner enquiries, logging and coordinating repair requests, instructing contractors, monitoring works in progress and assisting with budgeting and cost control. He supported senior managers with site visits, contractor communication and administrative tasks, gradually taking on more ownership of developments as his confidence grew. The role required strong organisation, clear communication and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
Factoring is fast paced and relationship driven, and Iain quickly developed the resilience and judgement the role demands. As his experience expanded, so did his responsibilities. He progressed from Trainee Property Manager to Property Manager, then into a Senior Associate position with team leadership duties and broader operational involvement.
Today, as Operations Director, Iain focuses on strengthening structure, refining processes and supporting the wider team. Having carried out the role himself, he understands the day to day pressures property managers face and works to ensure they have the clarity, systems and support needed to deliver consistently high standards.
His journey reflects the culture at Taylor & Martin, where progression is earned through trust, ownership and performance rather than prior industry background. Specific factoring experience is not essential. With the right mindset and work ethic, there is clear opportunity to build a long term career.
