At Taylor & Martin, we love seeing our team grow, and Rachel Melville’s journey is a perfect example.

Rachel joined T&M in February 2023 as a trainee, coming from pub management with no prior property experience. “I had absolutely no experience and it was my first office job,” she says. But with the support of colleagues like David, Iain, Craig, and Ross, Rachel learned everything from legislation to client communication, attending site visits, and drafting letters.

Her hard work paid off. She passed her probation early and was promoted to full Property Manager within months. “I started by assisting with meetings, updates, and errands, and now I manage my own portfolio, conduct site inspections, and oversee projects independently,” she explains.

Rachel thrives on the variety in her role. Some days she’s at her desk managing emails and quotes; others she’s on-site checking repairs, meeting contractors, or handling client queries. She credits T&M’s supportive culture for her growth: “They hire people with little to no experience and train them properly. I don’t think I’d ever want to work for another factor.”

Her advice to newcomers? “Stay organised, be patient, and focus on being the best Property Manager you can be.”

Looking ahead, Rachel hopes to take on team management roles, helping to train the next generation of excellent property managers. Her journey shows that with determination and support, anyone can thrive in property management—even without prior experience.
